Getting started in HSR layout

You just moved to a 1 bhk in HSR from Bellandur. From your sterilized gated society next to the monolithic JP Morgan office to an independent apartment next to a small dosa place and a cute tree. These are times of change. You are scared. “What do you mean, I have to keep the garbage out myself ” you ask yourself when the neighbor tells you there isn’t any housekeeping staff in your building. But worry not. Life here is good in HSR. You just need to get a few things in order. Here are some of those things.

  1. Make 1 trip to D Mart Koramangala – Get all basic items for cheap. Do it before you make your first blinkit order. You will save a lot. A Dmart trip gets you to a functional home as soon as possible.
  2. Check out local shops on morning walks. HSR is one of the most walkable area of town. Instead of googling for laundry, vegetable shop, tailor, etc, just walk around. You will find all these shops and explore the area alongside. (Pro tip, you can walk around with a cup of coffee in your hand)
  3. “Bhavna Kitchen Mart” on 27th Main is a good place to get deals on basic kitchen items. There are other “kitchen mart” type shops as well. You can get everything from stoves and gas cylinders to chopping boards and rice cookers at these shops.
  4. The Cycle is your friend. Almost everything you want, you can get in ~3 Km. Get a cycle. Ride it everywhere. You will thank me later.
  5. Think Beyond 3rd wave and Blue Tokai. If you love working from cafes, then look for other fantastic cafes in HSR like Cafe Hustle, Beanluru, etc.
  6. Furniture: If you want to spend 3 Lakh on the furniture, buy it on 27th main street, if you want to spend 30 thousand, do it on 24th main street.
  7. Join HSR is Home Discord. A fun way to meet interesting people and discover events in HSR Layout.
  8. Arrange for power backup. Hosting a big bescom office does not guarantee consistent power supply in the area. If you are in a building with no power backup, get an emergency lamp and a UPS at least or an inverter at best.
