Humanoid robots are almost here and I think this will be a technological shift comparable to Internet or the industrial revolution.
The reason: Our physical world is made for human hands and feet. Everything from heavy trucks to sharp knives to the sensetive tools of a watchmakers are meant to be handeled by human hands and seen by a human eye and navigated on a human foot.
A hand and eye are post and get APIs of the real world. Once a machine have them, they can interface with and control everything in a real world.
The qualities of the digital world which we have become used to in past years: access to things across the world, rapid upgradability, code working while you sleep, agents following orders without questioning you, etc. All these qualities will soon be available in physical world as well. This is profound and we are all underestimating the potential impact.
